Bio/Research

Anne McIlhaney specializes in early modern British literature including Shakespeare, with a focus on issues related to women and gender. She is currently working on a series of essays on mothering in Shakespeare's plays—a series that includes a recently published article on Shakespeare's Roman plays, as well as works in progress on mothering in Shakespeare's romances, in All's Well that Ends Well, and in the history plays. She enjoys teaching courses on the romance and epic genres. She also has an ongoing interest in early modern angling literature, and has published articles on women anglers in early modern British poetry and on Izaak Walton's Compleat Angler. She has presented her scholarly work at academic conferences and has also given lectures on women and gender in Shakespeare's play for such organizations as the St. Louis Shakespeare Festival and the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis.
